dumping 64 bit version 32

Just a few (unexpected) issues which make me think I'd be better off beta testing the 32-bit version (although the 64 version has mostly run well)
1. I can't find a virus checker that works. Unbelievably, Microsoft's Windows One Care won't work. The free version Microsoft recommends from CA downloads and installs, but doesn't work completely -- it scans, but reports itself as turned off and has no real time checking. The other "free trial" from Trend Micro requires a registry edit (and system modification) before it will run in 64-bit mode -- no thanks.
2. I own three printers and even the ones with 64-bit drivers available for XP won't install on Vista, so no printing for me. Other hardware, including my scanner, is also not going to work yet. Of course the only way to know any of this is to try the 64 bit version and see what happens. Some 64-bit drivers written for XP do work -- Vista said it couldn't find a driver for my Realtec Audio 97, but when I installed the 64-bit driver from MSI website, it worked fine.
3. In summary, it's just too hit and miss for me to be happy playing with Vista 64 right now. If I could print, I'd probably keep it. Of course I have no assurances my 32-bit printer drivers will work either. Anyway, Vista 32 is making its slow way down the pipeline to my computer overnight and we'll see how that goes.
Think twice before you download the 64-bit version. I have an Athlon 64-bit screaming machine, but it was humbled by the lack of drivers.

I can help with some of that.
1. Try avast! antivirus from Alwil Software. It runs on 64-bit OS's and it's free. Currently AVG is not compatible with Vista, which is what I had installed prior to upgrading.
2. Can't help you much here. I don't have any 64-bit drivers for my printer or scanner either. I'm currenty running 32-bit as my 64-bit system is broke down right now. Plan on installing Vista x64 on it but if there isn't any support for my printer and scanner I may install 32-bit. Anyone know if there is much of a performance difference between 32 and 64 bit versions?
3. True since my printer is attached to my other computer I can't guarantee 32-bit drivers will work either. I might attach them to this computer and test 'em first. Most of the XP drivers I've installed so far do work. So keep your fingers crossed.

On my 64-bit box x64 performs noticeably better than x86, but your mileage may vary. For example, I am constantly getting the pop up that suggests that I should turn off desktop composition (glass) due to poor performance in x86 but not in x64. x86 seems sluggish. I am running on a dual core AMD64.
